Help is at hand

We would all like to think that if we need help there is someone to turn to. Below are some government and public organisations that can help you when you need it.

Child Youth and Family

Although Child Youth and Family (CYF) might be in the news more often than not for the wrong reasons. The CYF website has many useful sections and is well worth a visit, espcially before you visit them in person.

It has a very interesting section on being a parent, http://www.cyf.govt.nz which links to a lot of other pages on their website. In particular you might find the section on positive parenting full of interesting and useful ideas, http://www.cyf.govt.nz.

Children's Commissioner's Office

The Children's Commissioner's Office website has an interesting, and short, section about children's rights. This includes a link to the United Nations Convention of Children's Rights both written for children and adults.

http://www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz/education/

I love this website for its simple explanations on consumers rights from a child's point of view. An example if the page on "If you break something in a shop" and what rights you have as a visitor to the shop and your child breaks something.

Will worth reading whether your a parent or an older child, don't you think!

New Zealand Family Court

This website sets out and explains the Family Court in an easy and relax style. There is a special section on it for children about parent separation and is written to help children answer questions that might arise at this time. The link to this page is  http://www.justice.govt.nz . If you are currently separating or know someone who is this section maybe useful to the children concerned.
