Cafe
Thames is only a ninety minute drive from
Auckland
and is the gateway to the Coromandel. The town was formed on the
back of the gold and kauri logging industries in the late 19th
century. The area offers visitors many opportunities explore its
past.
- Ngatea is just ten minutes
away from Thames and is worth stopping at on your journey to
Thames.
- Matatoki Farm Cheese
- Just off S.H.W - Cnr Wainui Rd, Matatoki
which is 14kms south of Thames.

- We produce cheese all year round from our
factory situated on the farm, we have cheese to try, a small
cafe, viewing rooms and farm animals and plenty of room for
kids to run around.

Beaches and walks
- Karaka Bird Hide
- Take the children on a boardwalk through the mangroves to the
Hide. Here you can view the birds in the Thames Firth. Remember
children need to be supervised at all times around water!

- Victoria Park is located on the
shores of the Firth of Thames and can be accessed via Brown
Street just past the Goldfields Shopping Mall.

- A visit to the Information Centre in Thames will give you
arrange of other sites to see in Thames, including local
accommodation, cafes and museums.

- Small Gauge Railway
- Small gauge railway operates from Brown Street, behind
Goldfields Mall on Wednesdays and Sundays from 1pm - 4pm.
