Gladstone

Gladstone
is a very small, crossroad village between Greytown and
Masterton.
Although it doesn't have the usual child-friendly places of
larger towns, it has been mentioned here because of the Scarecrow
Festival.
The Gladstone Scarecrow Festival runs from mid October through
to mid November and features Scarecrows of course!

This
is a wonderful day out for the family, make sure you take a
camera as there are scarecrows all along the main roads. The
imagination that goes in to these displays is truly amazing.
While visiting the festival not so long ago one that caught my
eye was the class-room - this featured numerous children
scarecrow children with a teacher scarecrow and blackboard,
and a country class-room setting. All this could be viewed
from the road.

Greytown
- Greytown is situated along
State Highway 2,between Featherston and
Carterton. It is the Wairarapa's oldest town, having been established in 1853.
