Beaches, parks and walks   |   Things to do with your children in Invercargill   |   Doctors | Getting there

If there is any Scottish in you then you may well feel at home in Invercargill, New Zealand's most southern city.
That is because Invercargill loves its Scottish heritage. It is from here you can venture to further destinations like Stewart Island, Fiordland and the Catlins.

Beaches, parks and walks

Oreti Beach

There is Oreti Beach which is a good summertime spot to visit.

Queens Park

If you enjoy gardens then visit Queens Park. This park covers 80 hectares and has a wide range of different gardens to view, with a bird aviary, animal enclosure and children's play areas.

Anderson and Donovan Park

Another park and gardens is Anderson Park which covers 24 hectares and surrounds an art gallery located in the old Georgian-style mansion. While enjoying the walk, there is a duck pond and children's playground  to take the kids to as well.

Mind you, you could go across the road to Donovan Park. Donovan Park has another duck pond and some lovely picnic spots.

Sandy Point

Get the kids legs into action and put them on wheels with mountain biking at Sandy Point or skateboarding at Elles Road or try the Invercargill skate park, located on Queens Drive just north of Queens Drive and Tweed Street.
