Between Auckland and Warkworth are some great places to visit. The Whangaparaoa Peninsula is about 10 minutes from Orewa and has a great reserve at the end of the peninsula. Travel on from Whangaparaoa and you reach Orewa with its long beach (pictured here to your right).

From Orewa you are only about ten minutes away from Waiwera, where you can enjoy its thermal pool complex, a must for water lovers.

Then on to Puhio and visit a cheese factory with an excellent cafe which gives the children a wonderful time while you enjoy their great food

The main feature of Orewa is its beach which runs the length of Orewa. You can access the beach from most of the side streets that run off the Hibiscus Coast Highway, the main road through Orewa.

Beaches and walks

Gulf Harbour  |   Orewa  |  Shakespeare Regional Park  | Waiwera  |  Whangaparaoa Peninsula  |

Whangaparaoa Peninsula
There are many beaches along the peninsula. Some of the most popular ones are Red Beach, Stanmore Bay Beach, Big Manly Beach over looking Polkinghornes Bay, Army Bay and Okoromai Bay. Both Army Bay and Okoromai Bay are at the entrance to Shakespeare Regional Park.

Shakespeare Regional Park is located at the end of Whangaparaoa Road which runs the length of the peninsula. At the end you will find a lovely beach with parking available. You can enjoy walks around the park, however it does border the Whangaparaoa Military Camp and access to this area is prohibited.

One of the newer playgrounds can be found at the Gulf Harbour development. Designed for slightly older children it has a nautical feel about it.

Orewa
Orewa Beach runs the length of Orewa and is a great swimming and running beach. See the photo at the beginning of this page to get an idea of the size of the beach. It is a good swimming beach, with a playground and toilets at the southern end of the beach.

Alice Eaves Scenic Reserve is at the northern end of Orewa off Old North Road, and is suitable for parents with younger children. It is a nature reserve and therefore is a good place to show the children our New Zealand bush.

A walking track runs along from Western Reserve, which is on the northern side of Orewa River Bridge to the southern side into Pohutukawa Reserve.

Wenderholme Regional Park is a beautiful regional park that overlooks the Hauraki Gulf and the Waiwera River. A great family place to visit with large open grounds and mature trees to provide shelter from the sun, good parking and toilets.
