Dargaville is located just three hours drive from the top of the North Island and is about three hours from Paihia and the Bay of Islands. Once upon a time, Dargaville was the heart of the Kauri logging industry, now only a few areas of kauri forest remain. There are two large stands of kauri Trounson Kauri Park, which is 45km north from Dargaville, and Waipoua Forest Sanctuary, which is 51km from the town.

Beaches and walks

Dargaville

Harding Park, off the Mt Wesley Coast Road, houses the historical Pa Pou-tu Ote Rangi and is well worth a trip with the children. Or visit Selwyn Park, off the main road Jervois Street.

Baylys Beach (Ripiro Beach)

You can reach Baylys Beach on the Baylys Coast Road State Highway 12, 12km from Dargaville. This beach is nearly 100km long and is less crowded than 99 Mile Beach, which is located further north.

Don't forget to put in the sand toboggan or surf boards while you're on holiday here!
