Rebuilding A Racing Car Legend |
Saturday 1 March, 7pm |
|
|
 |
In the mid to late 1960s Ford’s GT40s, driven by Jackie
Ickx, drove competitors into the ground, including top
rival Ferrari, at legendary Le Mans – the pinnacle race
on the endurance calendar. Almost 40 years later,
executives at Ford are given the green light to rebuild
a production version of the famous Ford GT – a classic
sports car for the modern market.
Rebuilding A Racing Car
Legend screens at 7pm on Saturday 1 March on
TVNZ Family on TVNZ 6.
The chance to rebuild a racing car legend is a dream
come true for a small team of Ford engineers and
designers. But with that opportunity comes plenty of
pressure. They have to deliver three show cars for the
company's centennial celebrations just 15 months away.
That's less than a third of the time of a normal rebuild
schedule and with one-tenth the number of staff. The
team will live in a pressure cooker environment until
those cars roll out. Failure is not an option.
But what will the new car look like? The designers and
engineers begin their journey in turning a racing legend
into a production super car and there are dramas along
the way. Simple things like wind-down windows, which
didn't exist in the race car, become serious problems
for a production vehicle and safety issues are
time-consuming road blocks.
As problems are resolved and early versions take to the
track, excitement builds amongst the team members. And
history has the chance to repeat itself with an on-track
duel between the Ford GT and its target vehicle, the
Ferrari 360, at the testing Road Atlanta circuit.
History is being rewritten. The Ford GT is back.

Jubilee
is a funny, warm-hearted comedy set in heartland New
Zealand. It is the story of Billy Williams, his family
and the small town of Waimatua, as they prepare for the
local school's jubilee.
Jubilee
screens at 9:30pm on Sunday 2 March, on TVNZ Showcase on
TVNZ 6.
Billy Williams (Cliff Curtis) may be hopeless, but he's
no loser. He's a likeable guy who's always volunteering
to lend a hand. It's just unfortunate he never finishes
a job - much to his wife Pauline's (Theresa Healey)
dismay.
Billy's opportunity to redeem himself comes when Agnes
Morrison, the driving force behind the Waimatua School
75th Jubilee, is killed in a freak accident. Billy gets
lumbered with the task and he's determined to prove his
worth as the new Jubilee Chairman.
Meanwhile, the impending celebration and the thought of
those who will return to Waimatua forces Pauline to
question the choices she has made in her life and brings
about a desire for change.
But could Pauline's quest for self-transformation be
connected to the arrival of Waimatua alumnus and former
All Black, Max Seddon (Kevin Smith) - the man who was
Pauline's high school sweetheart? To Billy, the All
Black is the star attraction of the reunion; to Pauline,
Max represents the life that could have been.
Produced by John Barnett of South Pacific Pictures,
Jubilee is a
classic kiwi film.
"I read the book 'Jubilee' and I thought it was
terrific," says Barnett.
"It struck me as very similar to the Roddy Doyle Irish
stories with the way it handles community, the way it
handles people, the humour, the small town setting and
the upbeat outcome."
"New Zealanders will watch Jubilee and say, 'I know
these people, I know these situations, I'm familiar with
small towns and family life…and it's funny."
