The Great Teddy Bear Hunt

When we started the 'Great Teddy Bear Hunt' we thought that we would get a lot stories about teddy bears. One thing that keeps coming through from all the emails we have received is that teddy bears means much more than our classic stuffed bear. AT Kids Friendly New Zealand we have learnt that "Teddy Bear" means a soft, normally small, soft toy and takes on many forms, but what shines through again and again is that these "teddy bears" provide our children with comfort and support when we aren't around to give it.

So look after those teddies, they give a lot of joy to our kids!

If you would like to join in the "Great Teddy Bear Hunt" send us your email and/or photos to us at mail@snuggles.co.nz .

Some of our reader Teddy Bears - Be warned they not all teddy bears

James' teddy bear is Snowy - a grey horse who appeared one day, true owner unknown. But much loved by James and has a birthday party once a year!

Sophia's teddy bear is Dolly. She is a pink, nine year old soft toy doll. She is version two, the original Dolly was lost somewhere in Birkenhead in Auckland some eight and a half years ago. Although Sophia has out grown Dolly, she has asked her mum to keep her safe until she had a daughter of her own.

M.P.D. who doesn't want his true name given out, as he is still at school, told us that his favourite teddy bear was found in a garage sale when he was six months old. The bear  was washed and clean up and is still around, some where. It has been on an Art Deco weekend and travel all around the North Island of New Zealand.

Here are some other "teddy bears"

Picture to the left: Three year old Isaac Ede Larsen playing with some very special bears form his great aunts collection (and a guide dog puppy!)

* See what we mean another  teddy bear disguised as a guide dog puppy!

My son Tristan was never attached to any of his stuffed toys.  One day my husband had to travel overseas for work. The day after he left “Red Bear” became a permanent part of our family. Tristan took him everywhere, even insisting that “Red Bear” had a place at the dining room table. Truly amazing the comfort a little stuffed friend can give in times of need.  Gwen Taquet

My Teds name is Ted!!! (Pictured to the right here)

He is a koala from Australia.

He is older than me,  I am eight.   I have loved him all my life.He is missing lots of fur and his stitching coming apart in his ears, his eyes are scratched and his nose cover

has been ripped off.

He goes everywhere with me including to car rallies.

But I am STILL the BEST BEAR IN THE WORLD!!!!!!! I never want him to go to bear land.

from Kirsten Green

* Okay he is a bear - just Australian!

Jamie's Best-Loved Bear is her Pooh Bear (Pictured above).  It was sent for her 1st Birthday from friends living in London.

Pooh or Poohie is her constant companion - she will very reluctantly leave him behind anywhere.  As a parent, my biggest fear is that we might lose him.  He has been to hospital, Kindergarten, on Holiday, to Bed ....the list goes on. He is starting to lose his fur and in the photo you can see that I sewed on a strategically placed bee but the furless gaps keep appearing.  Jamie who is 4 and a half keeps asking me why he is losing his fur and I tell her that he is getting old!
