North of
Wellington and not quite as far as Bulls, in the North
Island of New Zealand, is the town of Levin. For
families with children ranging in age from preschoolers
to teenagers this is an adventure playground for you.
The
playground is located on the left hand side of Oxford
Street, next to the Information Centre, when coming
north from Wellington. What makes this playground so
great are the wide range of facilities and adventure
play equipment.
Lets start
the list of things available. A fenced under five play
area, with shade sails. There is the flying fox,
tumbling drums, climbing wall and trampoline for the
primary school kids. And those restless teenagers are
not forgotten; get their rollerblades and
skateboards out and get them to try out the skateboard
park. Or how about trying the fitness trail or a family
game of sand volley ball. Getting the picture now? This
adventure playground really does cater for all members
of the family.
But there
is still more! There is ample parking both on Oxford
Street and next to the park by the Visitor Centre. With
New Zealand's weather not always full of sunshine, this
park also has an indoor eating area for times when the
sun doesn't shine. The toilets and indoor eating areas
were clean and very well kept.
But what
about your pet dog? This area also has a dog exercise
area for the favourite four-legged member of the family.
But what
impressed us so much about the park was the placement of
benches around the park. From a parent's point of view,
especially if you are supervising a number of children
of different ages, knowing where they all are can be
difficult. The park is layed out to give you maximum
visibility of all areas and the seating is such that
overall you should be able to see most of the kids, most
of the time.
When visiting the adventure
playground, do pack a large morning tea or lunch and
plenty to drink as the hardest thing you will find is
trying to get the kids away from here! |
