Often when we are driving from Warkworth down to Wellington we stop to refresh ourselves and children at the township of Cambridge.

This town is as beautiful as that of its English counterpart on the other side of the world, with its beautiful old trees providing shade in summer and a wonderful autumn display.

A favourite playground is in Te Ko Utu Park, on Thornton Road, which has two play areas next to each other; one catering for the very young and the other play area for older, more able children. You will need to take your first left into Victoria Street and then the next right into Thornton Road to find the  playground.

At the park is a lovely glasshouse which is open to the public and just past the glasshouse is a public toilet. The only downfall of the toilet

is that they are well out of sight of the main play area. Young children should be supervised when needing to go the toilets, due to the distance from the playground.

Another feature of the park is Lake Te Ko Utu and there is a walkway that travels around the lake. For other picnic  areas you can try Victoria Square on the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street. Or Cambridge and Leamington Domain on the corner of  Shakespeare Street and Browning Street.

There is the "Super Loo" available for those who enjoy their creature comforts and is located across the road from the information centre, on the main domain.
