FAMILY FRIENDLY SNOWSPORTS
There are buckets of fun for snowsports mad families
this winter at the South Island’s three premier ski
fields, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt.
Kids aged 6 & under get free day lift passes at all
three mountains, while at The Remarkables this offer is
extended to children aged 10 & under. |
 |
|
Youth rates apply to those 17
and under.
The Remarkables and Mt Hutt offer fantastic
value family discounts with packages for lift, lesson
and rental equipment and up to three kids per adult can
take advantage of the discounts available. |

At Coronet Peak learner skiers and riders will
find a new beginner facility, a new 180m long
and 30m wide slope equipped with a 150m long
Kaser Ski Carpet Lift. This effectively
doubles Coronet Peak’s beginner area meaning
happy learning for all ages!
Across the valley at The Remarkables,
freestylers will love the new jumps and rails in
the brand new UP & GO Terrain Park which is
twice the size of last year’s. In the
redesigned park, intermediate and advanced
shredders can stand at the top and choose lines
that suit individual ability and feature
preferences. Novices not quite at this level can
hone their skills in the entirely separate FruJu
Beginner Park which offers a variety of smaller
kickers, rails and boxes.

|
The Remarkables Tubing Park spells fun and
entertainment for all, with no skill required.
This is a must for families, the young and the
young-at heart wanting a break from
skiing/riding and looking for something
not-too-serious to do.
Canterbury’s treasured winter playground, Mt
Hutt has more snowmaking and a new computerised
system that promises improved snow surfaces for
2007. Extensive trail works means access to more
terrain for parents and children alike and a new
groomer, extending the fleet to four, means more
trails will be kept as smooth corduroy.

Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt
Hutt each offer a comprehensive range of ski development
programmes for kids aged two to 17 years old.
Each ski area has a Skiwiland crèche where fun is safely
supervised by qualified staff. Skiwi Packs offer free
skis and boots for four and
five year olds with a ski lesson – parents can
disappear while kids are well taken care of in a safe,
fun environment.
Holiday development programmes are also available;
Coronet Peak’s Kruiser Squad teaches kids for four hours
each day over five days while The Remarkables Camp
teaches kids aged six to 16 for four hours daily for
three or five days during
school holidays.

Mt Hutt offers the Kea Club, a daily programme for kids
aged 6 – 16 while those able to get to the mountain
every Sunday can take part in the Mountain Slider
programme for 5-12 year olds or the Skiers Edge for 13 –
17 year olds. Holiday programmes such as the
Junior Vagabond (5 hours a day for 5 days for 6-12 year
olds) and Max Vertical (three hours a day for 3 days for
12-17 year olds) offer fantastic holiday fun and
learning for children at Mt Hutt.
