The
Night
Night
falls, a dark veil
over
the world.
Blocking
out the daytime din
except
for occasional
cars
rumbling by
and
the gentle noises of
the night
The
crickets chirp
and
the owls hoot
softly
swooping
overhead,
scouting
for a
midnight
meal
Stars
gleam in the tarry sky
God
has the lights on
upstairs
I
open my window,
the
night air sharp on my skin
I
stand, transfixed, spellbound
by
the beauty and peace
till
sleep drives me, stumbling to bed
My
eyes close and I dream the night away till morning light
lifts
me from slumber and another day begins. |
What
is emerald?
What is emerald?
Emerald is the green shining on my lawn.
What is ruby?
Ruby is the red panda running across the fields.
What is sapphire?
Sapphire is the sky, blue and beautiful.
What is amethyst?
Amethyst is the rare purple flower, deeply pressed and preserved .
What is topaz?
Topaz is the pink and white and yellow shining from my walls.
Why, what is a diamond?
Why, it's simply just a diamond!

Friendship
Friendship
is
the trusting hand
in
yours, clasping it tight.
Friendship
is
the tears
trickling
down your
cheeks
as
you share a friend’s anguish,
and
the crescent moon
on
your face as you share
a
friend’s joy.
Friendship
is
the rib-cracking hug
two
friends exchange
at
the end of
a parting.
Friendship
is
the warmth
in
your heart
when
you hear a friend’s voice
and
see a friend’s face
and
feel a friend’s presence
beside
you.
